With an estimated 1,000,000 Expat New Zealanders, there are certainly a lot of good stories out there! We have a tendency to spread ourselves far and wide around the world, collecting experiences and influences, and sometimes bringing them back home with us, other times settling down in some random place in the world.

If you have a good Expat New Zealander story to share and would like to contribute to Homesick Kiwis Publication, we’d love to hear from you.

We can’t promise that we’ll publish all of the writing that we receive, but if you’ve got a good story and…

In 1997 I left my native home of New Zealand with a one-way ticket to the UK. Little did I know what was in store for me.

23 Years later… I am still at large in the world and have undertaken the colossal task of trying to make sense of my life and put it into a format fit for general consumption. I don’t remember names very well. Some details are hazy, others as clear as if they happened yesterday. I try to find the lessons that life has given me and share them, for your benefit and mine.

This…

Sitting on a plane to the other side of the world, not yet 20 years old…

I had dropped out of a tertiary education course that wasn’t heading towards a degree, took the maximum student loan drawdown and bought a one-way ticket to London…

Of course, I had every intention to repay that loan, just as soon as I landed, found a job and started saving up to travel the world…

I’d heard that it was totally possible and indeed plausible to get a job in a pub, live upstairs, work hard and save money to travel… What I hadn’t heard about was that there was a lot more drinking involved and a lot less saving…

I had a head full of dreams and a heart full of adventure!

Sitting on a plane to the other side of the world, not yet 20 years old. London-bound. I didn’t have much money mind you, nor experience, or much of a plan…

My London adventure had started when my mother’s colleague’s son described the possibilities for making money and having adventures in the capital. He told of working in a bar, living in a room upstairs, and saving money for travel. This seemed like as good a plan as any.

My prime objective was to get as far away from home as quickly as possible. Not because there was anything particularly…

I am strangely interested in my on-going lack of ability to make significant sums of money.

I’ve decided to write about it, so hopefully exploring it will help me work it out and help others along the way.

I’ve written about this before, Part 1, Part 2, but I started to build my fortune some years ago. Back in 2013 or 2014 I decided that I would make my fortune by regularly putting a small amount of pocket change…

How I increased my Medium earnings by 3757.14% in only one month with this one crazy trick and now you can too!

Disclaimer: There is no trick and I have no idea how you can replicate this completely random success.

Hello, lovely people of Medium. I’m a relatively new writer here, but I already know that it is more or less compulsory to write about how well or how badly it is going with making money on the platform. And of course to offer unsolicited and unqualified advice too

So I am here, in my second month of posting on the platform, to inform all and sundry, really anyone who will listen and cares to read, that I have increased my Medium…

I started outlining my under-earning journey in a series of posts, and if you’ve missed them I’ve listed out all of the different posts here.

For some reason, my journey in life has been a fairly frugal one.

I have consistently earned lower than the national average, occasionally scraping it, but never breaking through it. I cast my mind back and wonder if it’s always been this way? …

As a Kiwi who has been living abroad for over 20 years, I have become somewhat detached from my homeland. In an attempt to stay connected, or more like reconnect, to New Zealand, I have joined several Reddit subgroups about New Zealand, including my hometown of Hamilton.

While, politically, I’m somewhere left of Bernie Sanders and to the right of Gandhi, I have also decided to checkout r/ConservativeKiwi (but not join it) partly to know what Conservative Kiwis are thinking (personally I think Jacinda Ardern is awesome, whether compared to Boris and Donald or not) and also to find out…
